Global law firm's incredible new London office that breaks convention

We proudly present our latest project with the prestigious global law firm Baker McKenzie.

This East London eight-floor office is a marvel in sustainability, well being, client engagement and collaboration.

Unlike traditional law firms, this space breaks the mould with an open-plan layout, eliminating the conventional office setup. It features hot-desking, minimal storage, and floors designated for specific functions such as quiet corners, collaboration desks and formal and informal meeting areas for both clients and employees.

The design fosters an inclusive atmosphere, erasing the 'them/us' divide commonly found in corporate environments with a central staircase to encourage movement and interaction between floors.

As our furniture consultant, Collaborate worked with us and our designer, Hassell Studio, to source the furniture and handle all negotiations with the suppliers. The team also provided furniture project management, through a sub-contractor, to manage the installation. Every aspect of their work was accurate and considered. I found them to be very knowledgeable about the market and the products on offer and able to find alternatives if the first choice wasn’t suitable. Using a furniture consultant in this way on a large project has paid dividends in the finished result.

The Baker McKenzie space has a dedicated reception on the Ground Floor which flows into the clients space higher up the building due to the seamless design by Hassell Studio.

There are outdoor terraces across the floors, complemented by an extensive private roof garden and a dedicated Wellness Suite.

Retention of the building’s original structural framework during the base build refurbishment by the landlord, lead to considerable savings in embodied energy. Additionally, it includes a wide array of enhancements focused on environmental sustainability aimed at reducing energy usage, improving waste management, and enhancing air quality.

Sustainability and Wellbeing at the Forefront

The office design prioritises environmental sustainability and employee wellbeing, featuring on-floor balconies and an expansive private roof garden.

The building's original structure was preserved during refurbishment, significantly reducing embodied carbon. Efforts to enhance sustainability include improvements aimed at minimising energy consumption, optimising waste management, and improving air quality.

Baker McKenzie aims for BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum certifications, reflecting their commitment to sustainable and health-conscious practices.

Our collaboration with Baker McKenzie, Hassell Studio, and Bene has led to the creation of a unique desking solution, perfectly embodying the project's innovative spirit. The development of electronically height-adjustable "cantilevered" desks, with their minimalist design and single-column leg, highlights our collective dedication to providing cutting-edge office furniture solutions. This design conceals mechanical elements and offers an elegant, almost floating appearance, enhancing movement.

Impressively, we managed to complete the project under budget and on time!

Thank you to our partners, suppliers and the team at Baker McKenzie for a remarkable experience.
